Dogs at the Coast pack: Paws, Play Protect
This pack has been designed by Our Dee Estuary project staff as a reference for both landowners who have dog walkers visiting their site and for dog owners and walkers who want to be more aware of the wildlife and habitats they may encounter when out walking around the Dee Estuary.
British Divers Marine Life Rescue
British Divers Marine Life Rescue are an organisation that monitor seals and cetaceans and rescue stranded animals in need of rehabilitation. They have resources about what to do if you find a stranded seal or cetacean on their website. Locally, they work closely with the Friends of Hilbre Island and conduct seal watch sessions on the Hilbre Island Open Days that take place once a month between March and October.
Dee Estuary Voluntary Wardens
We have hundreds of thousands of feathered visitors that come to the Dee Estuary every autumn and winter to escape the colder winters in their breeding grounds of Iceland and Greenland and they are vulnerable to disturbance by people and our recreational activities, especially dog walking and water sports.
There is an opportunity to help monitor the birds at West Kirby by joining the volunteer group, Dee Estuary Voluntary Wardens.
The volunteers work shifts at West Kirby between the months of October and March to count and monitor the autumn and winter migratory waders and waterfowl that come to shelter and feed on the Dee Estuary.
