NATIONAL MARINE REVIEW
Every year The Wildlife Trust’s produce a National Marine Review to celebrate all things marine and to highlight the issues that marine and coastal environments are still experiencing.
We are so pleased to announce that Our Dee Estuary and partners feature twice in this years review. VALUING OUR VOLUNTEERS
As 2022 comes to an end and we look back on our first year of the Our Dee Estuary project we would like to say thank you to all our volunteers.
We recruited and trained more than 67 volunteers in 2022 and together they helped us monitor Natterjack toads 🐸, counted Grayling butterfly larvae 🐛and adults 🦋, recorded sounds for us 🎧, trained to be citizen scientists with us, lent us a helping hand at practical conservation days 🌳, researched for us 📖, and helped us at events 📅 and much more. Our Dee Estuary wouldn’t happen without them!

HIGHLIGHTS FROM 2022
Here are just some of our highlights from 2022…
A total of 35 wildlife surveys were completed in 2022 by ODE staff and volunteers including for grayling butterfly larvae and adults, Natterjack toad spawn strings and adults and two Shoresearch surveys.
18 teachers have taught 419 pupils about the Dee Estuary via the John Muir Award in 2022 and we can’t wait to do it all again next year.
We held a variety of training events for volunteers ranging from sound recording to nocturnal surveys for grayling butterfly larvae to a waterways workshop testing for water pollution totalling 15 training workshops across 2022.

Back in July we featured on ITV Wales Coast and Country which was watched by more than 123,000 viewers. You can still watch it here.
